We stayed up that night until about 11.30pm and it was well worth it. Basically the documentary involves around a heavily overweight Aussie guy, named Joe Cross, facing many health risks and taking heaps of medication daily. The problem he also seems to be facing is that the amount of medication seems to be getting more and more. He decides to go on a 60 day juice fast and spends this time in the US. His reasoning for doing the juice fast in the US is that surely if he can do it in such a food exposed environment, he will be able to maintain a healthier lifestyle and make positive changes when he arrives back in Australia.
Due to his medical conditions he is also under medical supervision during this journey through his 60 day juice fast. At the end of the fast the results are just awesome and eventually he is able to come off his medication completely.
I loved this documentary because it shows that everything is achievable if we have a reason that is big enough. Joe chose life.
Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead also is an example of the power that raw fruit and vegetable juices have and the ability of the human body to heal itself if it is given the right ingredients.
Of course a juice fast won't appeal to everyone, however there is simple steps we can all incorporate into our daily lives if we choose and want to. Since I have started juicing my health has improved significantly. I used to get migraines every week, whereas now I might get one a month.
I also believe that juicing has helped my body in running my first marathon last year at the City to Surf.
If you have seen Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead, what are your thoughts? What in your opinion are the best health based documentaries?
